"warning visiting this site may harm your computer!"
This is the warning that some people get now when they are doing searches on search engines such as Google and Yahoo.
In January of 2006, Google, Sun, and a PC maker called Lenovo banned together to create a system to fight back against websites that are known to use adware or backend software that may harm your computer.
It is their call of duty that helps protect online users from websites and programs that may have potential unwanted ads, spyware that tracks web habits, or even potentially steal personal data from people's pcs.
Right now Google is using a generic warning to people who have clicked on a link from their search engine that they believe to fall into this category. For now it is just a warning, giving the user a chance to click away and not visit the site. But if a visitor truly wants to visit the site, Google will still let you after the warning.
While many consider it a nuisance, we really do not see it any more of a pain, in fact less than the constant "are you sure" messages of late Microsoft operating system messages.
Scare tactic or friendly computing advice? You decide, but at least now you know what it means when you get the warning, warning visiting this site may harm your computer!
